After Math

The Anna Hazare fast is over. And with a bang I reckon. The entire episode from the time they took the crusader into custody to the Ram (jane) lila ground exhibition of unbridled solidarity, smacked of a numbers game. The Delhi Police for one started the numbers game with a restriction on the crowd collection – 5000 and no more was the verdict. A verdict that was pronounced not based on logic but very evidently force fed by the powers that be. Oh then they added more – 5000 people subject to about two dozen conditions. It was the arthshastra of a government that obviously was trying every trick in it books to stop the gathering – numbers notwithstanding. For sure, there were a few not-so-impressive clones of Kautilya who were writing the rules of engagement. Or was it disengagement? Came August 16, the numerical warfare started manifesting in proportions that took many a kautilyas in the government by the scruff of their necks. The math started playing out a game of progressively aggressive proportions

Then the fast started and with it the countdown to math-athon between the civil and a body that consisted of individuals whose should ideally be governing. While the parleys happened – back door or window doesn’t really matter – the arithmetic flavour to the mass was only swelling. The electronic media added to the formulae. Creating all the hype and hoopla was only churning up fervour of algebraic proportions.

The days that followed only showed that the math was heavily loaded in favour of the team that had evidently built phenomenal equity with the masses. Round One, as one said, went to this movement. It is the after math that needs to be evaluated. An aftermath where equations will change rapidly and will have more variables than ever before. Variables that will have a profound impact in the way the nation is governed or will be governable. The fact is the maths of the after math is in the peoples’ favour. Facebook hits on the movement again corruption cross the 300,000 mark. Numero Uno Anna it is for now. QED.
